Things to do

We are just a 5 minute drive from the bustling seaside town of Lyme Regis described as the Pearl of Dorset. It's full of great places to eat, independent shops, a stunning beach with views reaching out all along Lyme Bay. Lyme has many events and festivals to look out for throughout the season including; Fossil Fest, Lifeboat week, Regatta and Carnival week, Lyme Regis Folk Festival and Food Rocks Festival.

The world renowned fossiling hub of Charmouth is also only a 5 minute drive which is slightly quieter but still has a great beach and many fantastic walks and places to just sit down and watch the world go by. There is less choice for food at the beach compared to Lyme so we would recommend taking a picnic or walking back into the centre of the village where there are pubs, a cafe or a fish and chip shop. The Heritage centre at Charmouth is also a must for anyone interested in fossils or the history of the Jurassic Coast.

You can walk to both very easily from the campsite and we encourage people to do so. A well sign-posted footpath down through fields takes you right into the centre of Charmouth and Lyme and allows you to explore some beautiful West Dorset countryside. This is about a 30 minute walk to both but can be steep in places on the way back for tired legs. The bus route runs regularly and the closest stop is only a 10 minute walk along a flat pavement back to the campsite. Alternatively the park and ride serving Charmouth and Lyme operates throughout the summer months and that is a 2 minute drive away.

The market town of Bridport is a 20 minute drive away, again, well served by buses. The South West Coast path offers fantastic walks in both directions and it is only a 5 minute walk from the campsite. Many more attractions are accessible from our location for family days out; Crealy (Exeter), Donkey Sanctuary (Sidmouth), Pecorama (Beer), Monkey World (Swanage), Seaton Tramway & Wetlands (Seaton).

At Abbotsbury there is a swannery and a subtropical gardens and only a 10 minute drive away is Axe Valley Wildlife Park which we would recommend for kids. Sailing Deep Sea and Mackerel fishing trips are available daily from Lyme Regis Harbour throughout the summer.
